well… you still gotta go to work even if the public transport fails at any temperature other then between 5 and 20 degrees celsius.
not taking rain, falling leaves and sudden gusts of wind into account
Don’t be so nagative, the trains and busses were last friday a lot more comfy the all those cars on the highways. And why do you want to work at such a day? It’s a perfect reason to take a day off and one day don’t get you fired in The Netherlands.
That is pretty awesome, didn’t think the canals got frozen. On a side note, see all those cars parked on the banks, with not rails. Sadly, this would not last in the US. People would be falling in left and right.
FYI: as soon as frost is forecasted for a decent period of time, the boats are no longer allowed to go through the canals. This way there will be a nice even and evenly thick icefloor to skate on!
The frozen midsection is called the “gracht” (look it up, gracht is a real word.) and it goes through a pig part of Amsterdam.
I wouldn’t want to swim in it for 1 million however, since everybody throws their crap in it.
Morbid fact: corpses are often found in it…. on average, 1 corpse a month is found in the water of the gracht. That’s the downside of having it in the middle of a capital city. Drunken idiots, murder, accidents…
Well, that’s atm probably true to any mid-europe river.
Those are canals
Maybe its photoshoped. If these boats were there when the river frozen they should have been crushed by the water expansion , don´t they?
Steel hulls can take that. BTST (my parent’s boat in Lemmer next to the Ijsselmeer, also in the Netherlands).

People and cars do fall in the canals here in Amsterdam, don’t know why there aren’t any rails though..
As Steve Hughes said:
“is you bike wet? Then you’re on the wrong bit mate.”
Take that, global warming!
(to the first commenter: no, it’s very rarely happens)
I think what they’re saying is they’re all like that now because of the extreme weather across the continent.
^
Anti-scientific nonsense. Global warming can cause extremes in temperature either way.
I wish i could just go and live in amestedam

You should read some recent books and not some books from a couple of hundred years ago

Lol, I have to learn from an American site something awesome that happened in the center of the very town I live in.
At times like these I love being Dutch! We’re about the only country where this happens
And now, I’ll be out ice skating. Have a good day everyone!
Except of course for Sweden, Denmark, Canada, US, Russia, Argentine, New Zealand, etc.
yes, but they cant skate to their work
