I tried it. Putting in “The Shire” and “Mordor” as starting point & destination (not accepting any of the suggested completions) gave me walking directions from “The Shire” restaurant in Chehalis, Washington (state, US) to Mordor Tatoo in Arlington, Washington.
The thing that gets on my nerves about this movie is that they say you cant just walk into mordor then that’s exactly what they do. Its like saying you cant hit a 2m wide exhaust shaft while piloting an xwing down a trench across the equator of a moon sized space station then doing just that. Why put these statements in movies if thats exactly what youre going to do? Just so you can prove to people its not impossible? just say nothing is impossible and walk off then. Hollywood is so predictable.
What Chuck said.
I’d also like to point out that it was Boromir who said it, and, well, he didn’t walk into Mordor.
And as for the Star Wars reference, as soon as it was stated that doing so would be impossible, Luke says otherwise. Guess he was right.
I tried that. Google maps gave me actual directions. Apparently, The Shire and Mordor are a 2 and a half hour drive from each other. Apparently, one must stay about 100 miles away from Forks the entire time while traveling to Mordor.
Tried it and it worked for me. I got the Shire, Londen and ended in Mordor in Alkmaar, The Netherlands
And it seems that indeed one does not simply walk into Mordor, you have to cross the north sea to get there. But it does take less time then it took Frodo, here its only a 2 days and 3 hours walk.
I just google mapped it and I start in London and ended up in Scotland. To walk it you have to go to Belgium and takes 4 days and a ferry journey though to be honest they should have just taken the M6 and been there in 10 hours
Shopped. I just tried it and it doesn’t work. It wants you to pick one of several businesses that have Mordor in their name.
Nope i tried it worked
Definitely shopped. I tried too…that was disappointing.

Damn. I was so hoping this was another awesome google easter egg.
lol, I’m not the only one that tried it.
I did that it didn’t work. Darn.
The countdown till Google adds this starts now.
Stop the clock. Now it works!
lies. I totally tried it.

One does not SIMPLY walk into Mordor. However, one does do it with great difficulty. Hence why it took a year to get there and a month to get back.
…and on that tremendously nerdy retort, I think I’ll go sleep with my girlfriend.
WIN
I think Boromir was saying you couldn’t walk through the front entrance. I guess he didn’t know about Gollum’s stairs.
What Chuck said.

Come on. He can bulls-eye womp rats in his T-16 back home. They aren’t much bigger than two meters.
…wait. A two meter long rat??? Kill it! Kill it with fire!
The Fireswamp is trying its best to do so…
Huh, there’s a movie too? And I thought it was just a series of books!
I think it’s been quite a long time since you last watched Lord of the Rings.
yeah, there’s a mordor ohio, so that kind of stinks, that probably wont get added to any instructions
..they should have eagled into Mordor.
They would have been Nazgul food.
Google actually gives directions from a bar and a tattoo place in oregon
Get that finally into your head. The eagles would have been shot down as long as the ring and sauron weren’t destroyed.
This made me really dissapointed.
Tried, didnt work.
At least everyone else here tried it to……
I tried that. Google maps gave me actual directions. Apparently, The Shire and Mordor are a 2 and a half hour drive from each other. Apparently, one must stay about 100 miles away from Forks the entire time while traveling to Mordor.
I’m sad that you referenced Forks. I’m even sadder than I got the reference.
Why would you want to know the directions from the shire. Im quite sure Frodo found out he had to take it to mordor when they were in Rivendell
Okay tried it, and got
“Use caution – This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths.”
So one does not just simply walk into Mordor.
When I tried it The Shire was in the Scottish highlands and Mordor was near London.
For me the first result for The Shire was in London, maybe it’s a short walk after all…
I thought it was ‘shopped when I saw the font on the bottom part. It looks like Verdana, and Google Maps doesn’t use that…
Verdana is Helvetica’s redheaded stepchild. It’s there, but no one really talks about it.
one does not simply google into Mordor, either (apparently).
Shame! It’s a fake!
Submitter should simply walk into Mordor.

Well, actually .. There is another root…
Almost 10 years old…

fake. quote is in wrong font
Not fake, but requires specifically asking from “the shire” or “rivendell” into “mordor”.

http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=rivendell&daddr=mordor&dirflg=w
It works I did it. Need to use WALKING directions
For all you people who said it’s fake, it’s not. Use walking directions, not driving directions.
