Not quite. Most of the force of the river is in downcutting due to the uplift of the Colorado Plateau. Oxbow lakes tend to occur in areas of little relief, such as the Mississippi River valley. The fact that this river has cut through hundreds of millions of year of rock and not formed an oxbow lake is evidence that the downcutting forces are greater than the cut-bank forces needed to create an oxbow lake.
More like Need for Speed 3: Hot Pusuit; whatever that desert stage was called (I don’t remember because it’s been so long since I played that game (which was awesome, by the way)).
Just natures way to deal with length-wise shrinking rivers when it gets cold. It can take some slack from there. Cables are sometimes hung the same way.
If I’ve remembered my GCSE Geography correctly, that will one day turn into an oxbow lake.
+1
The second I saw the photo, I thought the exact same thing.

From Dust!
I went there in real life before it was cool. You’ve probably never seen it before, trust me.
I’m Idahoan. I drove past Horseshoe Bend about six times a year for 12 years. Problem?
My dad and I go fishing there about 4 times a year. It’s so nice! Fishing stinks, but great landscape!
forget the horseshoe, I rotate it 180 and have a giant Omega.
Ha! True…
Great spot for an ambush.
Does this place remind anyone else of Need for Speed 1&2?

More like Star Wars: Rogue Squadron for the Nintendo 64.

This is outside Page, Arizona on the Colorado River.
