Yeah, RFID tag in a card that can store value or pass information. I thought about removing my chip from my Charlie Card (Same thing, but in Boston) and attaching it to a wristwatch, coat sleeve, or cell phone, but I figured that I’m less likely to forget my wallet before heading out. But the magic wand thing is a really big win.
oyster cards are pretty worthless items, you don’t have to return them or anything when you stop using them and you constantly get new ones (think of oyster cards as AOL CD’s with the only difference being oyster cards actually are good for something), so I don’t think anyone has a problem with him messing with the card, after all he did pay for the ride.
prolly worth mentioning: oyster cards are prepaid, so once you pay for a card it is your property (you can recharge them, but why would anyone do that ? just get a new one).
where the hell is ‘epic win ftw’
dont replace it with this
omahgah this man is officially my idol!!!
So do I
It’s Galdalf in the flesh!
Ack…Autocorrect Fail.
It’s Gandalf in the flesh!
Is an Oyster card like a fast-pass thing for automatically recording fares?

Correct sirrah, +2 internets.
Indeed, it’s a pre-paid electronic pass for transport (bus, train, tube) in London.
Much saluting is in order!
This man is BRILLIANT.
That made my day. I salute the wizard as well.
Hah! His technical skills aren’t all that great, he just used a real magic wand.
This man is the King.
If psychic paper works, why NOT a wand?!?
i can’t stop laughing! GENIUS
Salute from the magic players community in U.A.E.
wonder if we can do it in our metro/?!?
Its a shame that the nol cards arnt a single small chip
I think this might catch on. Till anti terrorism legislation catches up anyway….
Oh dear god this is brilliant. I’m crying with laughter, made my day. Pure genius.
I have been so tempted to do this in the past
I talked about the idea of a sonic screwdriver to use the tube and get rid of the oyster card and all too many clauses.
But the idea is brilliant.
Oyster cards are awesome!
are they ??
Once you’re older than 26 they are. They’re so much more convenient than cardboard tickets and a bit cheaper.
hell yes! under 18 londoners travel free on all buses and tube travel for a day is only £1 for under 16s!
i’m sure Hugh Dennis said someone should do this on Mock the Week
i think it was on mock the week but it was a guest who said, i think the mans first name was Shaun or something
Brilliant! They let you do things like that to Oyster cards? Of course, Gandalf could get away with anything, I imagine.
why shouldn’t they ?

The reason you recharge them Is because each time you ask for a new one they charge you £5! Much cheaper just to top up the one you have already.
Swatch used to make watches with RFID chips inside that could be used to store ski-lift passes on them, but resorts here don’t sell those anymore…
The wand thing is just brilliant
How do you get the chip out? I thought there is an antenna/spool running around the edge of the card?

Awesome. Sadly, it looks as though tfl have changed the design of the oyster to make them harder to dismember useably.
I could so do this to my ez-link card (the Singaporean version of the Oyster Card) if I have the talent, time, and tools to do it…
