..thank gawd Malaysians know Engrish!..otherwise those poor hippies would be royally scrooged..

  2. forkforkforkfork says:

    Eric Cartman approved this message.

  3. DilaZirK says:

Whaaat? Where in Malaysia is this?! I must see it for myself! XD

  4. Dewey says:

And get off my lawn while you’re about it!!! Damn hippies!

  5. r says:

Fvck em. They should say “If you clothes are dirty and you visit our country, we will clean it for free!”

  6. Agent 1024 says:

I didn’t know that my neighbouring country has this law…

  7. marxz says:

this would be about 30 years old… back in the late 70′s and early 80′s Malaysian immigrations did prevent entry or repatriate foreigners people with “immoral” hair cuts (ie longer than shoulder length for men or really short on women) and clothing, but you’d probably pretty much have to go through immigrations in a micro swim suit or mankini to run foul of the current laws

I’ve been through KL airport almost 20 times (most of them with a stop over in KL) in the last 10 years and never seen this sign anywhere near the immigrations counter.

  8. dr.noooo says:

marxz, you couldn’t spot the sign because the sign was deemed “hippie” and was thrown out.

  9. Leo says:

    WIN? Racism win

  10. Evil says:

Win? Strikes me as an excessively judgemental fail. Why is a tourist’s clothes any of the Malaysian government’s business?

    • Chuck says:

It’s their country. They can do what they want.

      • Evil says:

True, but this fact does not make what they do a win.

        • Behrooz says:

Most of us are sick of smelly hippies. Patchouli oil does not smell nice, it smells like a mixture of pepper, bear spray, a$$ and death. I’m not a square because I bathe and don’t have braided hair on the backs of my knees. Malaysia just went up a point in my book…in fact, I might just have to take advantage of those immigration laws.

    • Acyl says:

Malaysia is technically an Islamic country. Mind, it’s a federal country…so different states have different standards. In most states it really doesn’t matter that much, and some states are pretty much entirely secular.

But in a few states they take things like dress or behaviour in public very very seriously, and apply full-blown Islamic law.

Having said that, I don’t know anything about this policy in particular. I’d suspect the earlier poster is correct in saying it’s probably an old photo.

      • Xenobio says:

I’m from Malaysia and have flown in and out of KLIA and Penang airports a fair bit the last few years. Don’t recall seeing this. I wonder if it’s a bit of memorabilia preserved by a “dirty hippie” backpacker hostel for the guests to laugh at.

  11. Lurkur says:

    That’s like, harsh, man.

  12. andy says:

My local bar has a sign that says “Hippies must use the back door”. lol

  13. Gunnerjones says:

I saw those signs in a number of places in Singapore, great town I’d go back in a minute

  14. slaggingham says:

Everywhere in the world should have this as a policy. Good Hygiene Win!

  15. OmNom says:

epic win! Also, “Evil” is clearly one of those dirty dirty hippies

    • Evil says:

No, Evil is not a hippy, though he has long enough hair that he might be judged as immoral and in need of a haircut by the Malaysian authorities.

      • Behrooz says:

Fair enough, but a ponytail would solve the issue I’m sure. Also pretty sure many of their huge population practicing Islam have fairly long hair too. Your point is well taken, but of course hippies have long loved eastern mysticism and once they infest, simple fuming can’t remove the infestation. ;)

        • Evil says:

It would, but I resent being told how dress or wear my hair, being that I’m a grown up & all.

          • x says:

Well if you can’t moderate your behavior and appearance, instead choosing to make some self-absorbed “statement” there are always people happy to help.

            • Evil says:

“(M)oderate (my) behavior” – well I obey the law. But as for my appearance? Well I moved out of my parents’ home quite a few years ago, so the only people who still have a right to expect me to do that pay me a salary, and they only have that right while I’m on the clock.

  16. usafortunes says:

I wonder if they are talking about western you know when they go to these country they try to blend in because of all the kidnapping and are big target

  17. Brian-M says:

I’m thinking that the sign should say “vagrant” rather than “hippie”.

  18. Eshton says:

    I am Malaysian.
Yes most of us speak good English.
But I’ve never come across that sign in my life.

    • Xenobio says:

If you think most Malaysians speak good English you’re probably one of those people from a middle-class urban background who never mix around with poor people or those from the kampungs [villages] =P I don’t blame them, I blame our s**tty education system. Cikgu Bahasa Inggeris pun tak boleh cakap dengan betul, macam mana dengan murid pula… [Even English teachers don't speak correctly, how are the pupils going to...]

      • The Zapperz says:

Bahasa Inggeris tak bawa kita ke mana. Yang penting Bahasa Arab.

      • Neev says:

Dude, I’m from the very conservative state of Kelantan. Born & raised here. I went to a very “kampung” middle school. For my SPM, I scored A1 for my English 1119, Band 6 for my Malaysian University English Test (MUET) and Band 8.5 for my IELTS. Do not judge somebody’s competency based on where they come from. I have friends who are from middle and upper class families and went to good public as well as private institutions who still fail to command the English language. I’m just saying.

  19. Geng1s says:

Singapore still does it, no hippie types allowed into the country.

  20. peevish says:

I guess I’ll have to make other holiday plans *sigh*

  21. execar says:

I could have expected us Singapore to do this, but our neighbours up north? Whoa…

  22. funkmasterperks says:

Seen this at a train station when crossing the border from Thailand a couple years ago.

  23. Joybus says:

    This…aggression will not stand, man!
